Richmond’s Famous
TACKY LIGHTS TOUR
Private Tours

Richmond, Virginia is the Christmas Tacky Light Capital of America as proclaimed by the mayor and shown on CBS Sunday Morning.  It began in 1987 as a contest, when homeowners decorated in an outrageous, over-the-top and unbelievable number of lights. It continues to grow each year and last year, nearly 70 homes were listed by the Richmond Times-Dispatch as “qualified” to be listed as a must-see house. To be listed, one must have a minimum of 40,000 lights and many have well over 100,000. One family claim nearly 1,500,000, while four of the area homes have competed on ABC’s “Great Christmas Light Fight.” You will see two winners of their competition!

The Richmond Tour Guys have developed a tour that is guide led and can be delivered in numerous ways, from ride along to caravan depending on your desire. We will see from 11 to 13 of the area’s top displays and while driving between stops, you will learn the history of Tacky Lights as well as “behind-the-seen” little known facts. At three stops, you will talk with the homeowner/decorators, who love answering your questions, and will explain “the how” of their displays.

This tour is offered from the Friday after Thanksgiving and continues through New Year’s Day with no tours Christmas Eve or Day or New Year’s Eve.
