Every Thursday night the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts jazz nighthosts a Jazz Happy hour in the museum’s café.
From 6-9pm you can enjoy music from local and traveling artists. Best of all, like general museum admission, the jazz café is free of charge.

Upon my fashionably late arrival around 7:30pm, the venue was packed and the band was in full swing. Seeing as how I came straight from work, refreshments were the first thing on my mind. The café had an impressive selection of affordable snack and meal options, along with a variety of wine and beer. I couldn’t resist the turkey and white cheddar Panini, which earned my stamp of approval.

Though the venue was packed, a group of regulars quickly invited my girlfriend and I to join them at their table. After exchanging introductions with the jolly crowd, one of the regulars was more than happy to give me some information on the jazz night routine. According to my new friend, there is a new band almost every week to keep things fresh and exciting.

Now, I certainly do not know much about Jazz, but Larri Branch Agenda drew quite a few people to the dance floor. I could tell that between the band and the event organizer, everything was set up for smooth, quality sound throughout the entire venue.

Whether you are visiting our awesome city of Richmond or a local, if you are looking for an entertaining alternative to the usual bar happy hour, the VMFA might be up your alley. You will want to show up early to grab a table, unless you luck out and have some regulars share their table and their wine with you!

This event is Richmond Tour Guy Approved.
